Building Sustainably
Our Commitment to Eco-Friendly Timber Frame Construction
It’s How We’ve Always Worked
Sustainability is in Our DNA
Being green isn’t a trend - it’s how we’ve always built. With every project, we look for smarter ways to reduce waste, reuse resources, and design with the next generation in mind.
Built for Long-Term Efficiency
Engineered for Efficiency
Our frames are built for performance. They support high levels of insulation, airtight detailing, and future-proof fabric-first design - helping buildings meet Passivhaus, Net Zero, and other environmental standards.
A Natural Advantage
Naturally Low Embodied Energy
Timber has significantly lower embodied energy than steel or concrete. That means less energy used in its production - and a more sustainable start to every build.
Precision Built, Minimal Impact
Smarter Builds, Smaller Footprint
Our prefabricated systems reduce on-site waste and minimise transport emissions. Every frame is delivered ready to install - reducing time, disruption, and the carbon footprint of construction.
A Greener Way to Power Production
Powered by 100% Renewable Energy
Our production facility runs entirely on renewable electricity. We even repurpose our timber offcuts to heat the building, reducing waste and cutting carbon emissions in the process.
Certified. Renewable. Responsible.
Timber from Responsible Forests
All of our timber is sourced from FSC® or PEFC-certified forests - where every tree felled is replaced and biodiversity is protected. Timber is not only renewable but also stores carbon, making it the natural choice for sustainable construction.
Why Sustainability Matters
Sustainability Starts at the Frame
At English Brothers, sustainability isn’t an extra - it’s the starting point. From the timber we source to the way we power our workshop, every decision is made with the planet in mind. Our timber frame systems combine natural materials with smart design to create buildings that are efficient, future-proof, and better for the environment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Eco Approach
Straight answers to the most common questions about our eco approach and timber frame construction.
Timber is a renewable, carbon-storing material. Unlike concrete or steel, it has low embodied energy and can be sourced responsibly from certified forests. It’s also quicker to build with, which helps reduce site disruption and waste.
Absolutely. Sustainability is built into every stage of our process - from sourcing timber and using renewable energy, to reducing waste and supporting low-energy building design.
We only use FSC® or PEFC-certified timber from responsibly managed forests. This means every piece is traceable and meets strict sustainability and replanting standards.
While our primary focus is on sustainably sourced new timber, we minimise waste throughout production and re-use all timber offcuts to heat our facility - a key part of our carbon-conscious operation.
Yes - our factory is powered by 100% renewable electricity. We also operate a near carbon-neutral heating system using our own timber waste.
By prefabricating offsite, we reduce on-site waste, shorten build times, and cut down on deliveries - all of which help lower emissions.
Offsite manufacturing allows for precise quality control, minimal waste, and faster on-site installation. It’s cleaner, more efficient, and much more sustainable.
Very little. Our panels arrive ready to install, meaning less cutting, less mess, and less waste overall.
Embodied energy is the total energy used to produce a building material. Timber has one of the lowest embodied energy levels of any structural material - making it ideal for eco-conscious construction.
Yes - long before it became an industry talking point, sustainability has been part of how we build. It's not a trend for us, it's a principle.
Of course. We’d be happy to chat through your project - whether you’re a self-builder, architect or developer. Just get in touch and we’ll talk through what’s possible.
