“Having visited many national home build exhibitions and taking advice from the National Selfbuild and Renovation Centre in Swindon, we eventually decided to build our self build home using the timber frame construction method, due to the cost effectiveness, quicker build time and better thermal insulation.
We then had to choose a supplier for the timber frame kit.
Having visited four different suppliers, to see their facilities, and also having obtained quotations for our house design from each, then Buildstore helped us to analyse the offerings from each. Our final decision was made in favour of English Brothers, because not only did they offer a highly specified kit, at a reasonable price, but were also able to customise our design to incorporate some oak features to help us create that wow factor. They were able to show us around a couple of houses that were under construction and also offered to factory fit the high level of insulation that we required, thus offering a more air-tight fit and simultaneously saving time and expense of trying to perform this task on site.
The family team have always been very friendly, helpful, informative and responsive. Even more importantly the complete kit was delivered to site on the agreed date- which is very important when scheduling a house build.
Subsequently our building inspector has also been impressed by the quality of the timber frame kit.
Would we use English Brothers again?- yes.”
“Self build is always challenging and can be a somewhat stressful experience for the novice first timer. Following the initial architects design for our new build on the North Norfolk coast we approached a number of timber frame manufacturers in the UK. English Brothers were recommended to us and following a visit to their offices and factory we were impressed with their warm welcome and willingness to work together on what was a slightly less than conventional design involving a combination of oak framing and modern day construction techniques.
Jay Hubbard and the team took the initial planning drawings and handled every aspect of the design and build process including building regulation approval, structural engineering and final frame drawings and manufacture. We found English Brothers to be responsive, flexible and innovative in their approach to the whole process. This removed the stress and worry over the build process and even after the frame had been erected they were available for further advice and guidance in solving problems and sourcing ideas for materials etc. The result for Angela and I is our dream home in North Norfolk, something we could not have achieved without the professionalism of Jay Hubbard and the team at English Brothers.”
This e mail should be filed, and opened on a day that things are GOING BADLY, as I expect happens now and then…
Having spent some time with the visitors and workers on site yesterday, I report back tributes expressed to me about English Brothers and the quality of the build that you have designed for us and supplied in glorious 3-D.
The gentleman supplying our air source system, who also works with other timber frame companies, was very full of praise for the quality of the timber frame and the way it fitted together, saying it far exceeded your competitors in the way it was prepared for assembly.
When they had all gone, I had the chance to chat to the erection team you recommended. There were heartfelt in repeating the news that they so much preferred working for EB and using their kits, than he had for many years past with another timber frame company, whom he found unavailable for access and advice, and with an inferior product .. “They are just too big, and once its up and delivered, they can’t be found…”.
Hilda and I would certainly wish to join in the round of applause; the service that you have given to us has far exceeded anything we had dared to hope for, and we are very grateful for that, and for the guidance you have given us towards a decent and approachable team of tradesmen to help us realise the build.
The only bad news that came out of last Thursday was that Hilda has had to yield half of her airing cupboard (it was a big one), and that Keith (the builder) doesn’t think that he will be done by Christmas…
We are learning to be resilient as we travel!”
“The level of service from English Brothers has been first-class and they have made the whole experience easier for us. Customer service was excellent – before and after delivery of the timber frame; any questions that cropped up were dealt with personal attention and any issues resolved swiftly. The timber frame went up very quickly and we look forward to moving into our new house sooner than expected. We also can’t wait to see our first gas bill; we expect it to be very low as our house is super-insulated!”
